Help Us Build A Kitchen
Equiti Foods Wants to Build a Kitchen and Community Garden In the Chapel Hill Area and We Need Your Help.
Good Bowls were created by Dr. Alice Ammerman, a nutrition professor and the Director of UNC’s Center Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. They are healthy frozen meals that feature whole grains, roasted vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy oils. Good Bowls are used in a variety of programs across the state, they’re sourced from local NC farms, and are prepared in two shared spaces near Chapel Hill. We are planning to build our own dedicated kitchen and community garden as our programs continue to grow in the coming years.
How Can You Help?
We want to buy or lease a building or a piece of land in Chapel Hill area where we can put our community kitchen and garden. We’re considering the following in the search for a home for our kitchen:
A building that is about 4,000 square feet, is connected to water and sewer, and is zoned in the commercial or industrial category
Has a space in front of the building that can be used for parking and delivery trucks
Has a space out back that can be turned into a community garden
If you have a piece of land that you’d be willing to parcel up, we’re looking for about an acre of space for our project
We’d like to be within a few miles of Chapel Hill if possible
A building that already has a kitchen would be ideal but not necessary
If you have a piece of land that has a water and sewer connection but the building is too small we would be willing to expand it into a kitchen
We want to purchase a property or building but are open to a lease if the right opportunity pops up.

Using The Kitchen
The Good Bowls Community Kitchen and Garden will be used in a variety of ways. We currently make healthy meals and medically tailored meals in a shared space and with the addition of our own new kitchen we will broaden how we increase access to healthy food and support the local food system.
With our new kitchen we will:
Increase our capacity to prepare healthy meals and medically tailored meals as our programs continue to expand across the state
Teach healthy cooking and gardening classes to local students and community members to help them learn valuable cooking and sustainability skills
Process more local farm produce to provide more opportunities to local farmers and continue to strengthen the local food system
Create a meeting space to host educational events for people interested in nutrition, sustainability, and strengthening the North Carolina Food Economy
