NC Summer Nutrition Program
Good Bowls is excited to announce that we will be an official vendor for the 2026 NC Summer Nutrition Program. This year we’re stepping out of the freezer section and will be providing our delicious healthy meals, served hot, to students in the Triangle area.
There are over 850,000 children that qualify for free or reduced lunch in North Carolina schools. Many of them rely on school breakfasts and lunch as a primary source of their healthy food. Summer vacation means that many of these children would lose access to the these meals that they receive at school. To help ensure kids continue to have access to delicious healthy food all year long, the NC Department of Instruction in collaboration with the NC Food Bank operates the Summer Nutrition Program, or SUN Meals, throughout the state.
The SUN Meals program ensures that anyone under 18 has access to healthy meals during the summer in a safe and supervised environment. There are program sites such as churches, community centers, and parks in all 100 counties of North Carolina and the state contracts with vendors to provide daily healthy lunches to the sites during the summer. This program helps to bridge the summer nutrition gap and makes sure every kid in North Carolina has access to healthy meals all summer long.

The famous Good Bowls fortified sauce cooking - packed with vegetables
This summer Good Bowls will be providing meals to children in both Chapel Hill and Durham. We’re usually known for our frozen meals, but for this program we’ll be serving hot lunch. We’ll also be using some of our kid-tested, kid-approved recipes, which of course meet the strict USDA summer meal guidelines. The children will get to check out some of our whole wheat pasta with our in-house fortified marinara sauce and we of course have a kids’ version of our Country Mac and Cheese featuring BBQ chicken and kid friendly broccoli and carrots.
Stay tuned for photos and feedback as the program roles out June 1st.
