HOP is Blooming this Spring

Good Bowls has served as a Human Services Organization for the Cape Fear Healthy Opportunities Pilot (HOP) for the last year. As part of this program we provide meal kits to high-need Medicaid patients in the coastal NC region. Each week customers receive a box of 14 healthy Good Bowls delivered right to their door in hopes of helping participants achieve improved health outcomes.

The HOP program is piloting in North Carolina and is studying if non-medical interventions such as food, transportation, and safe housing can help create better outcomes for high-needs Medicaid recipients. Since all Good Bowls recipes are based on the popular Mediterranean diet and adapted for local cultural preferences, the HOP administrators were excited to have such a nutrient-packed meal, that is frozen, delicious, and readily available for delivery.

Over the last year we’ve steadily increased the number of clients that we’re serving in the region. We’ve also recently added a medically tailored meals component to our normal offerings. Good Bowls is now able to offer meals for clients with very specific dietary needs such as calorie controlled, renal, heart healthy, and diabetic food needs.

Since this is a both a new program and pilot that could eventually be rolled out at a state level both the Good Bowls team and the HOP administrator team are eager to introduce this program to as many participants as possible. For this reason we are launching a Google Ads campaign in all six counties of the Cape Fear region to not only greatly increase awareness of the HOP opportunity but to increase the number customers in the program. We will be launching a series of YouTube videos as well as more traditional Google Ads to help build awareness among Medicaid recipients and also Care Providers in the region. Check back soon to see some videos in our YouTube series.

Easy access to delicious and healthy food can be a major challenge for many North Carolina residents. Through our participation in the HOP program we’re going to be greatly increasing our number of deliveries to both customer homes and senior living facilities over the next year. Since we at Good Bowls have the mission to make sure everyone has access to healthy delicious food regardless of income or where they live, our participation in the HOP program falls right in line with what we’re doing each and every day.
