Good Bowls at the Foothills Food Hub

In 2025 North Carolina food programs saw massive federal funding cuts as well as significant volatility in federal programs.  As a response to this, regional food hubs have started taking a larger role in the North Carolina food system.  County leaders are starting to see food hubs as critical infrastructure in the face of so much uncertainty and unpredictability at the federal level.  

The McDowell County Local Food Advisory Council has built the Foothills Food Hub into a pillar of the county’s food system in recent years.  The hub operates a food pantry, an aggregator for over 80 regional farmers, a health & resource center, and recently opened an online marketplace with pick-up and home delivery services.

Good Bowls arrive at the Foothills Food Hub

We are excited that as of this month the Foothills Food Hub now offers Good Bowls in their Online Marketplace.  Residents living near McDowell County in western North Carolina can now order Good Bowls from the hub and have them delivered to their home or pick them up at the hub.

Good Bowls sources many of its ingredients from local North Carolina farms and we produce our Bowls locally here in the Triangle - helping us pursue our mission of strengthening the local food economy.  We are excited that our partnership with the Foothills Food Hub opens up a new series of opportunities for us.  We are now able to serve a whole new region of customers in the western part of the state - connecting farms across the state with families wanting delicious healthy meals.  Additionally we are exploring back hauling fresh produce from the 80+ farms served by the hub to use in our kitchen - helping to expand the list of farms in our  supply chain and add additional resiliency into the North Carolina food system in these otherwise volatile times.

Both Good Bowls  and the Foothills Food Hub played a major role in the Healthy Opportunities Pilot and Foothills currently has a Farm to Senior program that connects seniors with farm fresh produce. The hub operates with a Food Is Medicine approach knowing that providing neighbors with healthy food is the best path to overall health and well being.  Good Bowls currently offers a number of our healthy meals on the marketplace and as sales increase over the year we are hoping to offer our medically tailored meals line as well .  By offering our carb controlled, kidney friendly, and heart healthy meals we can help to strengthen the Foothills Food Hub Food Is Medicine program and continue to help prevent and manage chronic disease throughout the state.
