Inaugural Community Harvest

During the pandemic Good Bowls and Pittsboro Eats teamed up with local restaurants to create the Pay-It-Forward program. We raised donations from the community and worked with local restaurants to cook healthy meals for families in need. With thousands of meals prepared and distributed, it was a win-win for food insecure families and local restaurants during a tough time.

Community Harvest is the next generation of Pay-It-Forward. In addition to Pittsboro Eats, we’ve added the newly formed non-profit Chatham Alliance to the team. Now all campaign contributions are tax deductible and we’re connected to even more community partners in the region, meaning Community Harvest is not only more sustainable in the long term, but we can also reach even more neighbors in need.

We’ll be running 4 campaigns per year, and we just wrapped up the inaugural Autumn Community Harvest Campaign. Over a 10 day period we brought in enough donations to cook 509 healthy meals. Next, a local volunteer team, using as much locally grown food as possible, will spend a day at a community commercial kitchen and cook up a large batch of meals to be donated to neighbors in need in the community. We’re planning on cooking the perennial favorite, Farmhouse Mac n’ Cheese for this first round - it’s the classic comfort food and is chock full of roasted vegetables. These frozen meals will be distributed through our community partners, CIS Chatham, Cora Food Pantry, and Chatham Chuckwagon.

As an added bonus to providing healthy food to neighbors in need, each campaign also features a raffle for everyone who donates to the campaign. The coveted prizes for the fall campaign included:

If you missed out on this campaign, you can contribute to the next on starting in January 2024, and you can always donate at any time on our site!
