What are Good Bowls?
Good Bowls are healthy frozen meals that are based on the Mediterranean diet and come in over a dozen flavors. They were created by a UNC nutrition professor and feature whole grains, healthy oils, and roasted vegetables. Good Bowls are sourced and made in North Carolina and can be ordered for home delivery in the Raleigh/Durham region and purchased at regional co-ops. We are a mission driven company that believes everyone should have access to healthy food regardless of income or where they live so we have a variety of programs to help increase access to healthy delicious meals across the state.
The Healthy Opportunities Pilot
If you live in the Cape Fear Region of North Carolina and are enrolled in Managed Medicaid Care you could be eligible to have Good Bowls delivered to your home every week for free as part of the Health Opportunities Pilot.

Healthy Frozen Meals
After years of research surrounding the food system, food insecurity, and how to prevent chronic disease, UNC Chapel Hill nutrition professor Dr. Alice Ammerman created Good Bowls – healthy, frozen meals based on the Mediterranean diet. We adapt our recipes for seasonal North Carolina grown foods like sweet potatoes, greens, peppers, and more!
-
North Carolina Sourced & Made
Good Bowls recently received a USDA Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) grant. Since our beginning we’ve been working with local farmers and producers, and now with the help of this grant, over the next three years we’ll continue on our mission and add new farmers and new producers to our network and grow the regional food infrastructure even more. We make our bowls right here in NC so we’re building the local food economy with every bowl!

Promoting Food Equity
At Good Bowls we believe that everyone should have access to healthy, delicious food regardless of income or where they live. We work to promote food equity in the community through a number of initiatives throughout the year. Our most popular is the Pay-It-Forward program where we partner with a locally owned restaurant, collect online meal donations, and once we’ve cooked up the meal we distribute them to families in need through a community partner. You can donate to our Pay-It-Forward anytime!
